Modern theory today says there are three ways to influence people, to motivate people. ‘Cause motivation is intrinsic. It’s self-generated. You can manipulate, you can force, or the best outcome is you can positively influence people to do the right thing when nobody’s watching. For example, they drive the speed limit, not because there’s photo radar, because they want to.

Interestingly enough, in this type of scenario, the lowest level of expectation is the level of expectation you have for them to complete this task. That’s the lowest. Your level of expectation. In command and control situations, your level of expectation becomes the highest that people can achieve because there’s no creativity.

There’s no thought. It’s command and control.
