To prepare for the unthinkable you must imagine the unthinkable and have a plan in place to deal with the most likely emergencies that will occur. There are three things you can do to deal with horrible things and to mitigate their effects.
- You must strategize.
You must come up with a plan in how you are going to deal with the unthinkable, put measures in place to lessen its impact and how you can become fast, quick and nimble once the unthinkable has occurred and have a competitive advantage when your competitors are down and out for the count. You have information for example stored in a different location or on the Cloud which you can access and become operational again. So strategize.
- You want to ensure that you have redundancies built into the system, fail-safes.
So if one system fails another backup system can come in and take over and deal with the system that is down. So for example power. If there are problems with power you have a generator or you can have a stove that generates power. It was talked about inNew York. A company produces a stove that produces power and you can charge your phones and have a power source just by burning stuff, which is amazing. It is brand new and it is American technology. So have redundancies built into the system.
- Liaise.
Liaise with the emergency response personnel. Make sure that you have procedures to deal with situations that are out of your control by using government agencies that specialize and following their directions where to go in the event of an emergency. Or how to ensure that you are protecting your most precious asset which is people first and then the physical assets of your building; the computers, the machinery, that type of thing.
So strategize, built in redundancies, liaise with government agencies. That’s how you deal with the unthinkable. Don’t let the unthinkable happen to you. Deal with it.
