For those of you who pay attention to this blog (and if you know what is good for you, you do), you understand that I don’t usually post here except on Tuesdays and Fridays when I have new material (and time!) to post. So you know that there is something important when I am presenting this to you on an “off day.”

[Photo from Wikipedia via a Creative Commons license]Bullying and harassment in the workplace is a growing problem. It is one of several topics addressed in the latest proposed changes to the Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Code. Public comments about the changes will be closed soon.

And for those of you in the Canadian province of Alberta, this is especially important for you. The rest of you are certainnly welcome to read on because it’s possible that some of this may come to a province or state near you soon.

Every so often, Worksafe Alberta reviews current rules and regulations for occupational health and safety standards in the province and it proposes tweaks or full-on changes according to results in workplaces, technology and the evolution of best practices in various industry sectors. Back in November, Worksafe Alberta announced some changes to rules and regs and opened  up a comment period for those changes, which would go into effect in August 2015.

Among the various workplaces issues addressed in these changes include workplace bullying and harrassment,  air quality, working in subterranean mines and the health and safety management in the oil and gas industry.

I am writing this to let you all know that the comment period is due to close on Saturday, January 31. If you are a safety professional in Alberta, or if you know someone who is, or if you are someone who just oversees your company’s safety program within the scope of your duties, it would be a good idea to ckheck out the changes and fill out a quick online survey to provide your feedback.

You can see the initial call for comment here, and fill out the survey here. Again, the survey will be closed the night of the 31st, so do not dawdle!
